Christian Horner praises Max Verstappen for getting “absolutely everything” out of the RB20 during Mexican GP Qualifying.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull faced a challenging time, unlike their weekend in Austin. During Friday’s practice session, the Dutch driver encountered several problems. He reported unusual noises coming from his Honda engines and noticed a loss of power. To prevent a grid penalty, Red Bull decided to change his engine before qualifying.
Max Verstappen voiced his frustration over what he termed a fruitless Friday, as technical problems hindered the number of laps he could complete. However, despite this obstacle, qualifying turned out to be a different story for him and Red Bull.
The team replaced the engine, but even at 27 years old, he continued to experience discomfort that held him back from reaching his full potential. Initially anticipating a second-row finish, he was delighted to clinch P2. By outperforming Lando Norris, he transformed a tough day into an excellent outcome. Team principal Christian Horner was amazed by the reigning world champion’s performance in qualifying.
He noted that Verstappen might have improved his lap time by roughly a hundredth of a second if his previous time had not been invalidated for veering off track at Turn 2. Despite this drawback, Horner expressed immense satisfaction with the way the Dutchman managed the car. The 50-year-old emphasized that Verstappen extracted every ounce of performance during qualifying.
