Tiger Woods Made Bryson DeChambeau Feel Sick; Ryder Cup Details Emerge After the Legend Gave Him the Cold Shoulder

At the 2018 Ryder Cup, Bryson DeChambeau made his first appearance for Team USA alongside seasoned player Tiger Woods.

At Le Golf National in France, the event set high expectations for the pairing of young, analytical DeChambeau and seasoned Woods. Unfortunately, they faced difficulties in their fourball match against Europe’s Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, resulting in a loss that contributed to Team USA’s challenging situation. Despite this setback, DeChambeau competed in the singles matches where he earned an important point for the U.S., but his efforts weren’t enough to change Europe’s overall dominance as they clinched victory with a score of 17.5-10.5.

The 2018 Ryder Cup, while challenging for DeChambeau, was an invaluable experience that contributed significantly to his growth as a player and prepared him for future international competitions. Tiger Woods made his first appearance in the Ryder Cup back in 1997 when the United States hosted at Valderrama Golf Club in Spain; by then, he had already become a prominent figure in golf. In contrast, Bryson DeChambeau was still establishing himself as a professional golfer. Even after six years have passed since that eventful tournament, it remains vivid in his memory.

In a recent YouTube video, The Scientist launched a series titled “Can I Beat 3 Top Junior Golfers in a 9 Hole Match?” During the video, one of the junior golfers admitted feeling nervous about performing under so many cameras. However, he understood that overcoming this challenge was necessary to play his best game. To reassure him, Bryson DeChambeau shared his own experience: “I’ll never forget playing with Tiger Woods during my first Ryder Cup in 2018.” He recalled feeling extremely anxious and added, “I wasn’t doing well; I wanted to throw up.”

Tiger Woods discovered a partner in his long-time friend. The two had been close well before his debut, often engaging in practice rounds and likely playing video games together. Nonetheless, their years of friendship took a turn when DeChambeau joined LIV Golf, prompting Tiger to start giving him the cold shoulder. However, things shifted for the better by July.

In an interview, Bryson DeChambeau disclosed that Tiger Woods has kept his distance from him since he joined the breakaway league. Despite trying to maintain their friendship by sending a birthday message to Woods—which went unanswered—DeChambeau experienced a change in dynamics when his longtime friend approached him during a practice round at Royal Troon.

A month ago, Bryson DeChambeau triumphed over Rory McIlroy to secure the trophy at the 2024 US Open. Prior to July’s Open Championship, Tiger Woods personally congratulated him on his victory. “This is our first interaction,” Bryson remarked, “but I have tremendous respect for him as a competitor. Winning two US Opens might have encouraged him to offer his congratulations—I’m not entirely sure of his perspective—but it was very considerate and I truly appreciated it.”
