Simone Biles has separated from her husband after nearly two years.
In a new article for Vogue, the 26-year-old gymnast revealed that she has split from Jonathan Owen. “It’s hard to end a relationship after such a long time at such a young age,” the four-time gold medalist said of the split. “But it was for the best.”
The two began dating in the summer of 2017. According to People magazine, the pair became romantically involved after Biles’ grandmother (and adoptive mother) fell in love with her soccer game. It may have been the 20-year-old gymnast’s first romantic relationship. She told Entertainment Tonight in April of that year, “I’ve never had a boyfriend in my life. I think at 20, I should have gone through all that and dated. Maybe I went on a real date once.”
