Hamilton and Mercedes ready for SHOCK U-TURN
Lewis Hamilton’s final season with Mercedes was supposed to be his swan song, but it turned out to be his worst year in F1.There were highlights, including an emotional win at Silverstone and an impressive performance at Spa, but those summer victories were overshadowed by the champion’s nightmare performances in Austin, Mexico and Brazil last month. In recent races, McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari have established their status as a front runner, and Mercedes has been kicked back on the empty land. But one of Hamilton’s decisive feature is his resilience against adversity, and he doesn’t want to leave the team to this low. Here’s why we should expect a reversal of Hamilton and Mercedes’ results in the final three races of the 2024 season.Mercedes technical director Andrew Shovlin says the team has completely lost hope of winning in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. “The important thing for us in the remaining races is to find out what we can do… Our focus has shifted heavily to learning what we need to do this year so we can apply that to solving these issues next year,” he told Motorsports.com.These are not fighting words that suggest a comeback, but they do take some pressure off Mercedes in the upcoming races, which could be a good thing for the team. Unlike its rivals, it is not embroiled in a championship battle at driver and constructor level and any potential friction between Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren could well work in Mercedes’ favour.
