Ex-F1 champion hits out at Top Gear fame Jeremy Clarkson for calling Max Verstappen the GOAT
Former F1 champion slams Jeremy Clarkson for famously calling Max Verstappen “the GOAT”
Jacques Villeneuve is not happy with Jeremy Clarkson’s claim that Max Verstappen is the GOAT, citing the transition to the F1 era as the reason.
The debate over the greatest of all time (GOAT) is still raging in the F1 paddock, with Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson recently calling Max Verstappen the best in the sport. However, such claims did not sit well with 1997 F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve, who lamented the 64-year-old’s statements and claimed that the Dutchman did not have to work hard to win the majority of his championships.
Max Verstappen won his first drivers’ title in 2021 after beating Lewis Hamilton in a fierce battle for the elusive title. Later, 27 -year -old football players were much easier to fight for the title, and in 2023, one of the most dominant seasons in F1.
Despite the fact that the 2024 title has caused several issues, Vermstappen is trying to deal with the disability as a World Champion, and is trying to get the fourth driver’s title. Jeremy Clarkson, who saw this, was amazed by the Dutchman’s abilities and named him the “GOAT F1”. Therefore, this did not please Jacques Villeneuve, who condemned such statements while explaining his position. Why does Jeremy Clarkson say Max Verstappen is the greatest driver of all time? He had a fantastic season beating Lewis Hamilton to win his first title. Then he experienced the same thing Lewis did when he won his first race, then he won comfortably just like Lewis did. And this year he’s been fighting back. So this year has been a great year. You can’t compare Fangio’s time to today, these are different eras. So you can’t say any of them are the best ever. The sport has changed too much.
