Max Verstappen said Red Bull was “a little too slow” on the streets of Las Vegas after qualifying fifth on Friday night.

Verstappen and Red Bull struggled with lap performance over the weekend, with the Dutchman finishing fifth at the end of Q3, nearly half a second off George Russell’s pole time. Verstappen stressed that Red Bull had difficulties with the supply of tires to the right window, combined with the specification of the posterior wing, which is raised along the long lines in Las Vegas.

“I mean that we are too slow, we have done our best to force the tires to work on a circle, and we are too slow on the straight lines, especially in qualifying,” said Ferestppen after qualification. Las Vegas, NV – November 22: (1) Max Verstappen of the Netherlands driving Oracle Red Bull

“You see the rear wing, it’s a lot shorter around the DRS flap, so when you open the DRS you don’t get the gain like the other wings and this complicates things a little bit.

“But it’s our fault and we know it and it’s a compromise we made, but still I tried to do my best. “It was quite close for third, maybe because of a few little details that could have been improved a little bit, but overall I’m happy with the laps, I didn’t do much.” Verstappen will share the third row of the grid with his only title rival Lando Norris, with the reigning champion set to take the crown on Saturday night unless Norris leads by three points or more.
