Olympic champion Towanisha “Tee Tee” Terry believes her incredible speed is the result of a combination of natural talent and relentless work. The American sprinter, who trains under Dennis Mitchell along with Sha-Kari Richardson and Melisa Jefferson at Star Athletics Track Club in Florida, continues to hone her skills to become one of the hottest prospects in track and field. Terry played an important role in the baton of 4×100 m women in a U.S. woman who gained money at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Richardson and Jefferson offered money and bronze, respectively.

Terry has always been known for her natural speed, but she admits it takes more than genetics to succeed at an elite level.

“I was born with certain genetics. “My coaches always said I’m so fast and I can do this and that, but some people have to hone their skills to do what I do naturally,” Terry said on her YouTube channel.

But the sprinter stressed that her growth on the track is the result of improved technique and attention to detail. “But over time, I built up my speed and worked to get faster at each level,” she added. “In high school, I did a little bit of running. Then in college I got more tech savvy and faster, and now I’m even more tech savvy with a focus on detail. It’s definitely a mix of both.

Terry’s path to the top of athletics began at a young age. At just 19 years old, she put in an exceptional performance at the Mount Relays, clocking a time of 10.99 seconds in the 100 meters at the SAC in April 2018. The feat made her the fourth-fastest female U20 athlete of all time and launched her on the path to stardom.

Her progression has been marked by resilience and determination, with each stage of her career propelling her to new heights. Terry’s excellence extends beyond sports. She is a double graduate of the University of Southern California, earning a bachelor’s degree in communications and then a master’s degree in entrepreneurship and innovation. Notably, she maintained a cumulative average of 3.5 or higher throughout her collegiate career.

This balance between athletic and academic success highlights her discipline, a quality she will continue to use as she pursues future accomplishments.
