Daniel Ricciardo broke ‘handshake agreement’ before Red Bull exit in Helmut Marko claim
In Helmut Marko’s claim, Daniel Ricciardo breached a ‘handshake agreement’ prior to his departure from Red Bull.
Helmut Marko has alleged that Daniel Ricciardo violated handshake agreements with both himself and Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz before leaving the team at the close of the 2018 F1 season.
Recently, Ricciardo was released by Red Bull’s junior team VCARB, making way for Liam Lawson to join Yuki Tsunoda as a partner for the last six races of F1 2024.
Helmut Marko stated that Daniel Ricciardo backed out of handshake agreements with Red Bull. The Australian driver’s departure was confirmed following an emotional weekend in Singapore, where he competed amidst increasing speculation about his future. At Marina Bay, after the race, Ricciardo received a guard of honor as many anticipated it to be the 35-year-old’s final Formula 1 appearance.
Ricciardo experienced the peak of his career with Red Bull from 2014 to 2018, securing all but one of his eight career victories during that period. However, in a surprising move for the team, the star from Perth chose to switch to Renault during the summer break.
