“I’m ready to be that sacrificial lamb,” said Sha’Carri Richardson as she shared her vision for breaking stagnation and driving change in track and field.
Sha’Carri Richardson has expressed her views on breaking barriers and driving change in track and field. She emphasized her eagerness to lead by example, urging other senior athletes to join her in fostering a supportive environment for future generations.
In an interview with Citius Mag following her absence from the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Richardson shared her aspiration to be a trailblazer by bringing attention to often overlooked issues. She emphasized the significance of inspiring young people to embrace their true selves, stating:
I genuinely want to lead the charge, and I’m willing to sacrifice myself because for years, generations have passed with no one speaking up. The top figures in this sport have simply taken their earnings and moved on without considering those at the grassroots level, which isn’t fair. When we step onto that track, we’re all striving for the same outcome: allowing future generations to be true to themselves.
Sha’Carri Richardson encouraged accomplished athletes to stay involved in the sport and mentor upcoming talent, saying:
“Don’t exit the track, leave the game, and then advise others to ‘be yourself’ if you never practiced it. Be the beacon you encourage others to be.”
“That’s exactly why I keep moving forward, regardless of winning, losing, or drawing. I rely on my confidence and divine spirit because ultimately we are more than just our physical selves,” Richardson stated during the same interaction.
