Today’s F1 Update: Hamilton Unveils Mercedes Comeback Strategy, Ferrari Boss Comments on Departure – Inspiring Sporting Triumphs and Empowering Journeys
The seven-time world champion said goodbye to Mercedes during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, as he gears up for a move to Ferrari in 2025.
Hamilton has not only experienced over a decade of championship-defining success with the team, but he also leaves an impressive legacy for his efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion.
While at Mercedes, Hamilton established the charitable foundation Mission 44 to support underrepresented groups in education and help them secure roles in motorsport. He also ensured that this mission was reflected within the F1 team.
Lewis Hamilton has championed diversity and inclusion initiatives at Mercedes, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. As questions arise about whether his relationship with the team will endure, Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff recently affirmed that their dedication to these efforts—initiated by Hamilton—will persist following his departure.
The champion announced his intention to revisit the team, ensuring ongoing progress in this area, even after joining a rival team. Speaking at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, he expressed pride in his efforts: “What I’m most proud of—and hope leaves a positive impact—is our work on diversity and inclusion.”
I’m incredibly proud of how this all started, beginning with my first conversations with Toto and his open-mindedness. The entire team shared this mindset, as everyone underwent diversity inclusion training and actively participated in forming the diversity team. We truly took action by putting our money where our mouth is, resulting in a very diverse group now—something I’m deeply grateful to have contributed to.
When I sit with Toto, I tell him that once I’m gone, there won’t be anyone left to have these difficult conversations with him. I’ve expressed my hope that he will continue this practice, and he’s assured me he will. I’ll drop by occasionally just to make sure it does.
