F1 News Today:-Tributes roll in for F1 legend after New Years announcement – Lest’s Talk Sports

Tributes from the global Formula 1 community have flooded in for a legend of the sport after an unexpected New Year announcement.

The praise follows the announcement this week that broadcaster and former racer Martin Brundle has received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in recognition of his contributions to motor racing and sports broadcasting.

For nearly three decades, Brundle has been a staple in the UK’s F1 coverage, with his pre-race grid walks becoming essential viewing for fans nationwide.

The Brit had periods as a co-commentator with ITV before transitioning to the BBC in 2009.

He became part of the Sky Sports team in 2012 and has been an integral figure in their comprehensive sports coverage ever since.

Before embarking on his career as a commentator, the 65-year-old was a prominent presence on the F1 grid from 1984 to 1996, securing nine podium finishes during that period.

Tributes pour in for Brundle

After the announcement that Brundle would receive this prestigious honor, many of his colleagues, friends, and fans flocked to social media to offer their congratulations.

On X, Karun Chandhok, a fellow Sky Sports pundit, expressed his congratulations to @MBrundleF1: “Massive kudos to him. I frequently refer to Martin as the ‘Adrian Newey of commentary’ because he has navigated countless eras in the sport while consistently staying at the pinnacle of knowledge and delivering flawlessly every time. It’s been an honor and pleasure.”
