The Aston Martin F1 team has dismissed rumors about signing Red Bull driver Max Verstappen for an astonishing £1 billion deal. Verstappen, the reigning four-time world champion, has been with the Austrian team since he advanced from their driver academy at the start of his career.

After clinching his inaugural world championship in 2021, the Dutch driver committed to a multi-year contract with the Milton-Keynes team, securing his place through the end of the 2028 season. Nonetheless, teams such as Aston Martin and Mercedes attempted to lure him away following internal tensions that emerged at the beginning of last year.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Martin’s Commercial and Marketing Managing Director, Jefferson Slack, has been enticing sponsors by suggesting that Max Verstappen would sign with their team. He informed potential investors that this deal—valued at £1 billion—would be the most significant in F1 history and include equity for the Dutch driver within the British team.

It was suggested that Verstappen’s annual salary could quadruple if he accepted the offer from Aston Martin, and it would also give him an opportunity to collaborate with Adrian Newey once more.

Nevertheless, the team based in Silverstone dismissed claims of any such agreement. According to Planet F1:

A spokesperson for Aston Martin Aramco firmly refuted the story.

Although many teams were competing for his signature, Max Verstappen remained steadfast and stated that he would honor his existing contract with Red Bull, which runs until 2028.

Max Verstappen shares his thoughts on what lies ahead for him with Red Bull

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen expressed that he had no ambition to win another world championship with a different team, stating he was “happy” with his current situation.

According to PlanetF1, the 27-year-old reflected:

“I don’t feel the need to compete for the World Championship elsewhere. I’m content where I am. It would also be wonderful to remain with one team and race there indefinitely.”

Do I care about leaving a legacy? Not at all. My success isn’t measured by others’ opinions; my own happiness is what counts most to me. In sports, having some luck and being part of the right team for an extended period also plays a role. The person with the most titles isn’t necessarily the best player out there.

Max Verstappen clinched his fourth consecutive F1 title in the 2024 season, even though he spent two-thirds of the year driving a less competitive car. Despite this challenge, the Dutchman consistently managed to minimize damage across nearly every race. However, Red Bull found themselves exposed with their second car and ultimately lost the Constructors’ Championship to Mercedes.
