FIA Unveils Major Ford Announcement in Official New Team Reveal

The FIA has announced a surprising new entry: a Ford works team for the 2027 season.

Ford has a longstanding history with Formula 1, having been a major engine supplier throughout the 20th century before effectively establishing their own team in 2000 under the Jaguar brand.

The American company has announced its intention to return as engine suppliers in 2026, re-entering the sport alongside Audi after an absence of more than two decades when the new engine regulations are introduced.

General Motors has announced its intention to become an engine supplier for the new Cadillac team. However, Cadillac currently has a deal in place to use Ferrari power until GM develops a Formula 1-ready power unit.

In which locations will Ford be competing in races in 2027?

On Friday morning, the FIA revealed that Ford will participate in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship and compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans starting in 2027.

Bill Ford, the great-grandson of Ford founder Henry Ford, remarked: “We’re stepping into a new chapter for performance and racing at Ford. This is evident in our endeavors both on-road and off-road. When we compete, it’s with the intention to win. No track or race holds more significance to our heritage than Le Mans.”

This is the place where we faced Ferrari and emerged victorious in the 1960s. Fifty years later, we astonished everyone by defeating Ferrari once more. I am excited about our return to Le Mans, competing at the pinnacle of endurance racing. We are prepared to challenge global competition again, and

“Go like hell!”
